In response to the site’s State Heritage listing, this high-performance workplace is designed as a building quite literally made from trees. A finely articulated facade of ‘garden rooms’ and restorative breakout spaces blurs the boundary between building and landscape, engaging directly with the garden and reimagining how the site is experienced. These green interludes also help mediate the building’s scale within its urban context.

The structure is a hybrid of cross-laminated timber (CLT), glulam, and steel, enabling an impressive 15-metre clear span across open floorplates. By utilising the excess back-span capacity of the steel beams, meeting rooms, balconies, and breakout spaces are cantilevered into the surrounding greenery. These ‘garden rooms’ nestle among the trees, enriching the spatial experience and giving rhythm and depth to the facade.

Prefabricated and lightweight, the structural system minimises environmental impact compared to conventional construction. It allows for a faster, quieter and safer build, significantly reducing disruption to the garden setting, existing trees, and associated business operations.
