Torre Verde

Project type:
Large-scale residential

Location:
Mexico City, Mexico

Client:
Abraham Lobaton
Our vision for this project saw us redefine the apartment tower typology. Dissolving the hard line between high-rise living and the suburban backyard, we wanted to instead create something that felt like a vertical home. The client’s brief was simple but inspiring: one expansive apartment per floor with space for mature trees and enough room for his grandchildren to kick a football.

The building’s helicoid form – a spiralling arrangement of stacked apartments – creates triple-height garden terraces that bring abundant natural light into the living spaces and allow for the planting of full-scale trees. Deep planters carefully integrated into the structure, paired with carefully selected plant species, enable the flourishing of lush, garden-like landscapes in the sky. Full height sliding glass doors open entirely from the corners of the living areas, seamlessly merging indoor and outdoor space.

Engineered for a seismically active zone, the hybrid concrete and steel structure is stabilised by a system of deep shear walls. The spiralling form also mitigates wind turbulence and downdraft, creating sheltered terraces that extend the living environment comfortably throughout the year.
This project was designed in collaboration with Meir Lobaton.
